BEECHER – Washington Township will continue its long-standing support of local emergency services and community traditions, with the Board of Trustees approving a combined $2,500 in sponsorships during its meeting on Monday.
The board first addressed a $1,000 sponsorship request from the Village of Beecher for its Emergency Management Agency (EMA) program. The program provides critical support to multiple government entities during traffic incidents, weather emergencies, parades, and other public activities.
During the discussion, it was clarified that the sponsorship is part of an existing Intergovernmental Agreement between the township and the village. The agreement, which requires the township to contribute $1,000 annually, renews automatically every four years. The board unanimously approved the payment.
Later in the meeting, trustees voted to approve a $1,500 sponsorship for the Beecher 4th of July Commission. According to the board, the township has been a sponsor of the annual celebration for many years and had allocated the funds in its current budget for the sponsorship.
The motion, made by Trustee George Obradovich and seconded by Trustee Tracy Heldt, passed unanimously without further discussion.
