Will County Public Works Committee Juliy 1 Meeting Briefs

ROAD CONTRACTS APPROVED

Austin Tyler Construction Contract: The committee approved a $691,544 contract with Austin Tyler Construction for resurfacing River Road from East Frontage Road to Prairie Creek Bridge and Strip Mine Road from IL Route 129 to IL Route 53. Work begins in August with completion expected by October.

Washington Township Resurfacing: Iroquois Paving Corporation received a $198,978 contract to resurface Yates Avenue from Kentucky Road to County Line Road in Washington Township. The project starts in August with September completion.

RIGHT-OF-WAY ACQUISITIONS

Laraway Road Property: The board approved $1.02 million for acquiring right-of-way for Laraway Road improvements from Cherry Hill Road to Nelson Road, affecting eight parcels. The funding comes from various transportation fund sources.

Francis Road Acquisition: Officials allocated $54,460 for right-of-way acquisition for Francis Road improvements from Gougar Road to I-80, supporting the project’s flush median and drainage improvements.

SPEED ZONE CHANGES

New Speed Zones: The committee established two new altered speed zones – Zone 700 on Division Street at 50 mph and Zone 701 on Plainfield-Naperville Road at 50 mph – based on traffic engineering studies.

Extended Zone: Speed Zone 615 on Plainfield-Naperville Road was lengthened southward to maintain consistent 45 mph limits on roadway sections with barrier curb, following state design guidelines.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Mills Road Study: The third public meeting for the Mills Road-Cherry Hill Road study will be held August 5 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Nowell Park Recreation Center. Project information is available at www.millscherryhillstudy.com.

Committee Schedule: The next Public Works & Transportation Committee meeting is scheduled for August 5, 2025, at the Will County Office Building in Joliet.
