Beecher Bats Explode in Dominant 16-0 Shutout Over Grant Park
The Beecher varsity baseball team put on an offensive clinic on Thursday afternoon, overwhelming conference rival Grant Park with a 16-0 shutout victory. Beecher scored early and often, invoking the mercy rule after just three innings of play behind a relentless 12-hit attack and a stellar pitching performance from Chase Maher.
Beecher wasted no time taking control of the contest, plating four runs in the top of the first inning to immediately put the home team on its heels. The offensive barrage reached its peak in the second inning when the visitors erupted for 10 runs, batting around the order and effectively putting the game out of reach. Two more runs in the third inning capped off the scoring for the afternoon.
Tyler Doran was a nightmare for Grant Park’s pitching staff, anchoring the Beecher lineup with a team-high four RBIs. Doran was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Chasten Clegg also swung a heavy bat, driving in three runs on a double of his own. Noah Hanson, Gavin Van Ness, and D. Camilleri chipped in with two RBIs apiece to keep the line moving, while Brady Cain set the table with a flawless 2-for-2 performance and two runs scored.
On the mound, Maher was in complete control. The Beecher starter tossed all three innings to earn the abbreviated complete-game shutout. He struck out six Grant Park batters and worked around four walks, allowing just a single hit to keep the home team off the scoreboard.
Grant Park struggled to find any momentum against Maher’s overpowering stuff. Joey McGinley and Dean Malkowski managed to swipe a stolen base each for the home team, but the offense was unable to string together opportunities to mount a response. Four different pitchers took the mound for Grant Park in an attempt to slow the Beecher rally, with Joey McGinley recording a strikeout in his one inning of relief work.
