Meeting Summary and Briefs: Beecher Fire Protection District Board of Trustees for April 24, 2025

Spread the love

The Beecher Fire Protection District Board of Trustees approved a major investment in firefighter safety during its April 24 meeting, authorizing over $91,000 for the purchase of new turnout gear and helmets, funded in part by a FEMA grant. For more on this critical equipment upgrade, see our full story. The board also renewed a cost-saving joint fuel agreement with four other local government entities, demonstrating a continued focus on inter-agency cooperation and fiscal prudence. Read more about the collaborative fuel purchasing plan in our detailed article.

Other key actions included renewing the district’s paramedic contract, approving a significant vehicle replacement, and getting updates on staffing and new community programs.

Paramedic Service Contract Renewed
Trustees voted unanimously to approve the renewal of the district’s contract with Metro Paramedic Services. The action ensures that paramedic-level advanced life support services will continue to be provided to residents within the fire protection district. The motion was made by Trustee Mike Waterman and seconded by Trustee Bruce Becker.

Capital Vehicle Replacement Approved
The board authorized the expenditure of $78,314.13 for the replacement of a capital asset vehicle, identified as MV-C2. The purchase, scheduled for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, is part of the district’s long-term fleet and facility replacement plan to maintain a modern and reliable emergency response apparatus.

Staffing and Training Remain a Priority
The district is adding three new CPR instructors, and a vacant full-time/part-time position on the Black shift is scheduled to be filled by July 1. Meanwhile, testing for career firefighter positions is proceeding with the National Testing Network. Deputy Chief Mike Heusing reported that firefighters have logged a total of 3,736 training hours to date.

Community Outreach Programs Launching
The district is expanding its public education efforts with the launch of a Junior Fire Academy and a Citizen Fire Academy. These programs, along with the ongoing Barn Safety Program, are designed to give residents a closer look at fire department operations and promote community safety.

District Supports Regional Mutual Aid Group
Trustees unanimously voted to approve a hole sponsorship and a blanket donation for the MABAS Division 27 golf outing. MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) is a critical organization that facilitates the sharing of emergency resources between departments during large-scale incidents, and the district’s contribution supports its regional partners.
