New Beecher Public Safety Facility Nears Completion Amidst Minor Setbacks

Spread the love

Article Summary: Beecher’s new Public Safety Facility is nearing the final stages of completion, with the parking lot recently paved and striped, but the village is now addressing a potential roof issue and a plan to fix the garage floor. Police Chief Terry Lemming praised the new building, calling it “beautiful” and a major asset for the community.

Public Safety Facility Key Points:

  • A potential roof problem involving broken screws holding down decking boards is being investigated by the contractor.

  • The plan to fix pooling water in the garage involves installing two new drains and applying an industrial epoxy coating to the entire floor.

BEECHER – With the parking lot now paved and striped, the new Beecher Public Safety Facility is moving closer to its grand opening, though officials are still resolving a few final construction issues.

During the June 9 village board meeting, Trustee Brian Diachenko reported that while major exterior work is complete, a potential problem with the roof has emerged. Administrator Charity Mitchell explained that during an inspection, broken screws were found holding down the roof’s decking boards, causing some sections to “heave.” The construction contractor and roofer are investigating and developing a solution.

A resolution has also been reached for an issue with water pooling on the garage floor. “JMA is going to put two drains in the rear portion of the garage where the water is standing, and then they’re going to epoxy the entire floor,” Mitchell said. The board confirmed the coating will be a durable, industrial-grade epoxy.

Despite the minor setbacks, Police Chief Terry Lemming expressed immense satisfaction with the new facility. “The building is beautiful. It’s just absolutely more than better than I ever expected,” Lemming said. “It’s going to be great for recruiting, great for retention, great for getting the community to the police station for a good reason.”

Lemming added that the building’s community room is now available for use by any non-profit community groups. The fence for the property is scheduled to be installed the week of June 23.
