Migrant dead after incident with ICE

A man is dead and a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer is injured after the ICE officer attempted to arrest the foreign national during a vehicle stop in Franklin Park.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, who was in the country illegally, attempted to flee, drove at law enforcement officers and dragged the ICE officer with his car.

DHS said the officer feared for his life and fired his weapon. Villegas-Gonzalez was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The ICE officer was reported to be in stable condition with multiple injuries.

Man charged with robbing armored truck

An Evergreen Park man is charged with robbing an armored truck driver in downtown Chicago last Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Dajon Harris, 23, was injured after he stole a bag of cash from the driver, who fired shots at Harris during the struggle.

Law enforcement officers apprehended Harris at a nearby subway station and recovered the stolen money.

Pritzker signs vaccine access executive order

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed an executive order to establish the Statewide Vaccine Access Initiative.

The move calls for the Illinois Department of Public Health Director, Dr. Sameer Vohra, to issue a Standing Order to allow eligible providers in pharmacy and other clinical settings to administer vaccines recommended by IDPH.

Pritzker said the executive order was necessitated by federal actions, including the dismissal of top administrators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
