Meeting Summary and Briefs: Village of Beecher Board of Trustees for September 8, 2025

Spread the love

The Beecher Village Board tackled significant public safety and development issues at its September 8 meeting, dominated by a discussion over construction practices in the new Lennar Homes subdivision. Following a presentation by Fire Chief Falaschetti detailing potential hazards, the board reaffirmed its commitment to a stricter-than-normal electrical code requiring conduit wiring. For more details on the chief’s concerns and the board’s decision, a full article is available.

In other major business, the board paved the way for a new daycare facility to open at 993 Dixie Highway. Trustees directed the village attorney to draft a special use permit that would allow an existing children’s play place to expand its services to meet community demand for childcare. A separate article provides more information on this new development. The board also learned of a cooperative effort with the Beecher Fire Protection District, which has offered to cover the cost of relocating the Firemen’s Park surveillance system.

Fire District to Handle Park Surveillance Relocation
The Beecher Fire Protection District has offered to cover the cost and manage the relocation of the Firemen’s Park surveillance system equipment to the new police facility. Fire Chief Falaschetti stated the district would use its IT company and place a dish on the fire station, creating a more reliable signal and saving the village significant expense. Village officials expressed appreciation for the intergovernmental cooperation.

Brush Collection Ordinance Approved
The board formally approved Ordinance #1439, which amends the village’s brush collection schedule. The ordinance codifies that regular weekly collection runs from April through the last Tuesday in September. A special collection will occur on the first Tuesday of November. From October through March, brush will only be collected following storms that cause significant tree damage.

Washington Township Insurance Request Denied
Following an inquiry from Washington Township, the Village Board reached a consensus not to amend an intergovernmental agreement to allow the township’s elected trustees to join the village’s health insurance plan. Administrator Charity Mitchell noted the original agreement only covered full-time highway department employees, and while the township officials offered to pay for their own coverage, the board expressed no interest in extending the benefit.

4th of July Commission Reports Successful Year
The Beecher 4th of July Commission reported a successful 2025 celebration, generating over $30,000 in profit. Trustee Todd Kraus delivered the update, thanking the commissioners and volunteers for their work. The commission is actively seeking new members to help plan future events. Interested residents are encouraged to contact the Village Hall for more information.

E-Bike Regulations to be Discussed
The village will consider adding e-bikes to its ordinance regulating low-speed scooters at a future meeting. Trustee Joe Tieri raised the issue, noting that while state law covers both, the village’s recently passed Ordinance #1437 only mentioned scooters. The topic was added to the agenda for the next board meeting to ensure local regulations are comprehensive and clear for residents.

Village Commissions Seek New Members
Several Village of Beecher commissions are looking for volunteers. During Monday’s meeting, representatives from the 4th of July Commission, the Youth Commission, and the Historic Preservation Commission all announced they are seeking new members to help with their community-focused work. Residents interested in serving on any of these commissions are encouraged to contact the Beecher Village Hall for more information on how to apply.

Fall Newsletter Deadline
Residents and board members were reminded that the deadline to submit articles for the village’s fall newsletter is September 26. The newsletter is a key communication tool for the village, providing updates on projects, events, and important information directly to Beecher households.
