BEECHER, IL – A decorative window wrap designed to modernize the appearance of Beecher High School was approved by the Board of Education on September 10, following a discussion on cost versus visual impact.
The board voted 5-2 to approve a $12,488 proposal from the company Brand U for the project. The decision followed a review of a second, less expensive option that would have cost about $1,000 less but covered 10 fewer windows.
Board President Ashley Belt advocated for the more comprehensive design. “I think if we do it, we do it right or we don’t do it at all,” she said. “For $1,000 difference, I’d rather have it look nice and full than just try to cheap out for $1,000.”
The project is intended to “clean up the schools and modernize them a little where people can see,” according to board discussion. The wrap is seen as good optics for the community and provides a minor security benefit by partially obscuring the view into classrooms from the outside.
The high school project will benefit from a bulk discount offered by the vendor, as similar wraps have been installed at the junior high and are being planned by the PTO for the elementary school.
