BEECHER, IL – A property owner on E. Corning Road has received the backing of the Washington Township Board of Trustees for a plan to build a new barn. During its meeting on August 4, the board reviewed a Special Use Permit request from resident Evelia Flores for her property at 1444 E. Corning Road.
Supervisor Mike Stanula explained that the situation was unique because the 5-acre parcel is zoned A1 (agricultural), a designation typically reserved for larger properties. He noted that parcels of that size are more commonly zoned E1 (suburban estate).
Despite the unusual zoning, Will County Land Use has allowed the applicant to seek a Special Use Permit to construct a barn behind the existing house. The exact dimensions of the proposed barn were not provided in the meeting, but Stanula stated that as long as the structure conforms to the county’s existing size requirements, the township should support the request.
Board members had no objections to the proposal. Stanula confirmed he will draft a letter to the county expressing the township’s support for the Special Use Permit.
