Beecher Digs Out from 12.4 Inches of Snow; Sub-Zero Cold Forecast for Friday

A heavy winter storm system blanketed Beecher with 12.4 inches of snow over the weekend, creating difficult travel conditions and setting the stage for a week of bitter cold temperatures.

According to a weather precipitation report generated Sunday, Nov. 30, the storm dropped the majority of its precipitation on Saturday, Nov. 29. The daily total for Saturday reached 10.1 inches. The accumulation was driven by a particularly intense band of snow in the evening; data shows that at 6 p.m., Beecher received 4.5 inches of snow in just one hour.

Snowfall continued into the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 30, adding another 2.3 inches to the weekend total. Temperatures on Sunday reached a high of 34 degrees before dropping to 16 degrees by 11 p.m.

Residents should remain alert as the active winter pattern is forecast to continue through the first week of December. A forecast generated Sunday indicates a 100 percent chance of snow for Monday afternoon, Dec. 1, with less than one inch of accumulation expected. A second system is predicted for Tuesday night, Dec. 2, bringing an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow.

Following the snow, a severe cold snap is expected to descend on the region. Thursday, Dec. 4, will see a daytime high of only 12 degrees under sunny skies. The temperature is forecast to plummet further on Friday night, Dec. 5, reaching a low of -5 degrees.
