Illinois House Republicans say the SAFE-T Act continues to fail Illinois residents after a suspect with dozens of arrests was accused of punching a man and knocking him to the Chicago Transit Authority train tracks.
CBS Chicago reports that Tommie O. Brown, 39, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery to a police officer following a struggle.
Police said the victim narrowly avoided the electrified third rail, and a nearby train operator was able to stop and avoid hitting the man.
Plaintiffs move to dismiss their ICE use of force case
A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026 after plaintiffs filed a motion to dismiss their lawsuit seeking to restrict federal immigration officials’ use of force in Chicago.
In the case of the Chicago Headline Club v. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, U.S. District Court Judge Sara Ellis issued a preliminary injunction blocking federal agents from using physical force or riot control weapons during Operation Midway Blitz, but the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals paused Ellis’ injunction last month.
Miller supports Johnson amid party dispute
Illinois U.S. Rep. Mary Miller has released a statement expressing her support of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana.
Miller said Johnson has led the House majority with “God-given courage, clarity, and remarkable patience.”
Miller’s statement followed social media comments by New York U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, who said Johnson was “getting rolled” by Democrats.
