Meeting Summary and Briefs: Beecher School Board Facilities Committee
Beecher School Board Facilities Committee Meeting | November 24, 2025
The Beecher School District 200-U Facilities Committee met on Monday, November 24, 2025, to review capital improvement projects and maintenance checklists. The primary focus of the meeting was a $300,000+ proposal to replace windows at the Elementary School. However, the committee delayed a decision after receiving conflicting reports on whether water leaks in the building were caused by masonry deterioration or roofing failures. The committee also engaged in high-level discussions regarding future expansion and addressed immediate safety concerns at the high school.
News Briefs:
High School Staff Lot Lighting: Committee members identified a safety concern regarding the staff parking lot on the west side of Beecher High School, which is currently unlit. Administrators agreed to explore installing LED wall packs on the side of the gym to illuminate the area for staff leaving the building at night.
Bus Barn Awning Proposed: To protect the district’s fleet and reduce labor, the committee discussed a proposal to build an overhead aluminum awning or carport at the bus barn. Currently, buses are parked uncovered, requiring staff to manually clear snow and ice during winter months.
Replacing Wooden Desks: The committee reviewed a plan to replace older wooden desks at the Elementary School. Administrators noted that humidity levels in the building are causing issues with the wood furniture. The district plans to replace approximately 90 desks per year to phase out the older equipment.
Junior High Foundation: A “sinking” corner of the Junior High building was noted on the maintenance checklist. Administrators described the issue as the floor settling in the entryway. While it is not currently considered a structural emergency, it remains on the “fair” condition list for monitoring.
Next Meeting: The committee tentatively agreed to hold its next meeting on December 8, 2025, prior to the Transportation Committee meeting.
