Police shooting suspect in custody
Illinois State Police say a man is in custody after he allegedly shot and wounded a Granite City police officer.
D.J. Marshall, 26, of Granite City was taken into custody at approximately 3:00 a.m. Saturday.
Marshall is accused of firing several shots and striking one officer when police responded to a call Friday afternoon.
The officer was hospitalized in stable condition.
Retired judge brought back
The Illinois Supreme Court announced the recall and assignment of retired Judge Mark H. Clarke to the Fifth District Appellate Court.
Clarke presided in the First Judicial Circuit from 1992 to 2018.
He is being assigned to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice James R. Moore on Dec. 31.
The Fifth Appellate District hears cases from across 48 counties in southern Illinois.
Holiday fire safety urged
The Illinois State Marshal is joining fire safety organizations across the state in urging residents to keep fire safety at the top of their holiday checklists.
The agency says 12 lives were lost in fire-related incidents during the holiday season in Illinois last year.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, more than one-third of home decoration fires are started by candles.
