Beecher School District Transportation Committee Meeting | Dec. 8, 2025

Article Summary: Discussion at the Beecher Transportation Committee meeting highlighted safety hazards at daycare drop-off points, specifically regarding students running through parking lots and buses backing up. The district is requesting that daycare staff meet the bus at the door to ensure safe transfers.

Safety & Behavior Key Points:

  • Parking Lot Hazards: Officials expressed concern over students running toward parents’ cars immediately after exiting the bus in shared commercial parking lots.

  • Request for Escort: The district is requesting that daycare providers have a staff member meet the bus at the door to escort students into the building.

  • Bus Maneuvers: Concerns were raised about school buses having to back up within the daycare parking lot.

  • On-Board Behavior: Parents and officials discussed reports of students standing on the bus while it is in motion, with the Superintendent promising immediate action.

Beyond scheduling changes, the Beecher Board of Education Transportation Committee focused heavily on physical safety at daycare drop-off locations during its meeting on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Transportation officials and Board members discussed the environment at the Beecher Learning Center drop-off. A primary concern is students exiting the bus and immediately running through the parking lot to their parents’ vehicles rather than entering the facility.

“The biggest issue is them running because they see their parents’ cars and they’re all over,” a district official stated. “We need you to come to the door… and ensure they’re getting off safely and they’re in the building while our bus driver leaves.”

The committee discussed the need for a documented procedure where a daycare employee meets the bus at the door to escort students.

Parents in attendance also raised concerns about bus operations. One parent noted seeing a bus backing up while students were standing on the steps and platform inside the vehicle, anticipating the stop.

“The bus is backing up and there is a child on the bottom step right when the door opens,” the parent reported.

The Superintendent addressed the issue of students standing while the bus is moving, calling it “unacceptable.”

“I can promise you a thousand percent that driver is going to be addressed tomorrow immediately when he gets into the shop,” the Superintendent said. “I am not happy when I hear that there’s kids standing up on a bus.”
