(The Cetner Square) – Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Jane Theis has announced her retirement from the Illinois Supreme Court, effective Jan. 29.

Theis became a judge in 1983 and has served on the state’s high court since 2010, including a term as chief justice from 2022 until 2025.

The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed First District Appellate Court Justice Sanjay T. Tailor to fill Justice Theis’ seat from Jan. 30 through Dec. 4, 2028.

ILLINOIS CASINO REVENUE UP

Illinois casinos generated $169.1 million in adjusted gross revenue last month, a 7.6% increase over December 2024.

Rivers Casino in Des Plaines topped the state with $45.7 million in revenue last month, a 6.2% increase over 2024. Wind Creek Chicago Southland in East Hazel Crest, which opened in Nov. 2024, reported a 53% year-over-year increase. DraftKings at Casino Queen in East St. Louis reported a 33.3% decline to $5.5 million last month.

SECOND EXTENSION FOR STATE HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS

The Get Covered Illinois division of the state’s Department of Insurance has again extended the deadline for residents to enroll in health insurance through the state marketplace.

Illinoisans now have until Jan. 31 to apply and enroll in coverage. The state’s previous deadlines were Dec. 15 and Dec. 31.

Get Covered Illinois said in November that Illinoisans enrolling in state-based coverage could expect an average 78% increase in monthly premiums for 2026.
