Village of Beecher Board Meeting | Feb 23, 2026

Meeting Summary
The Beecher Village Board convened on Monday, February 23, 2026, for a session dominated by fiscal planning and infrastructure updates. The primary focus was the allocation of approximately $227,000 in proceeds from the sale of the former police station. While the Board moved forward with safety and maintenance improvements—specifically a new sign for the police station and flooring for Village Hall—they rejected a six-figure renovation of the park stage, opting to heed warnings from the Village Administrator to preserve financial reserves.

In addition to the infrastructure debate, the Board handled routine financial business, approving the Treasurer’s report which showed a total of $5,829,923.93 across Village and Commission accounts. The Board also approved the bills list totaling $45,343.07.

News Briefs

Park Lighting Approved
The Board approved the purchase of Govee Pro LED permanent lighting for the Firemen’s Park beer stand pavilion. The $4,000 contract was awarded to Phil’s Electric. The lighting is programmable, allowing the Village to change colors for different events and seasons. The purchase will be funded through the FY25/26 General Fund Parks budget.

Elsie’s Gaming Cafe to Hold Ribbon Cutting
Village President Marcy Meyer announced that Elsie’s, a new gaming cafe located on Route 1, will hold its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Meyer noted that while the Village has previously emphasized a preference for eateries over gaming establishments, Elsie’s has developed a food menu including meatball and sub sandwiches. The business opened in December.

Mother-Son Dance Registration Open
Trustee Jessica Smith announced that registration is now open for the Youth Commission’s annual Mother-Son Dance. The event is scheduled for March 21, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Residents can register through the Village website.

ComEd Grant for Police Drone
The Board authorized the police department to apply for a $10,000 ComEd grant to assist in purchasing a drone equipped with thermal imaging. The Village will match the grant funds, with the total project cost not to exceed $20,000.

Financial Reports Approved
Trustee Todd Kraus presented the finance report, noting a January month-end balance of $5,336,590.44 in Village accounts and $493,333.49 in Commission accounts. The Board unanimously approved the Treasurer’s report and the bills and payroll list. Kraus noted a specific refund check issued to Fieldgate for a deposit refund in lieu of credit.
