Beecher Pitching Trio Combines for One-Hitter, 15 Strikeouts in 5-1 Win Over Lisle
The Beecher varsity baseball team put on a pitching clinic on Saturday afternoon, racking up 15 total strikeouts and tossing a combined one-hitter to defeat Lisle 5-1 in a home non-conference matchup.
Despite falling behind early when Lisle manufactured an unearned run in the top of the first inning, the Bobcats immediately answered. Beecher’s offense capitalized on a pair of early walks and plated three runs in the bottom half of the opening frame to take a 3-1 lead, giving their pitching staff all the run support they would need.
Starting pitcher Nicholas Fox set the tone, earning the win after allowing just one hit and zero earned runs over three innings of work while striking out five. From there, the Bobcats’ bullpen took over and completely shut down the Lisle lineup.
Reliever Gavin Van Ness was virtually untouchable in his three innings on the mound. The right-hander did not allow a single hit and struck out eight of the batters he faced, displaying devastating putaway stuff. Easton Lane then slammed the door in the seventh, striking out two more in a hitless frame to seal the victory.
Offensively, the Bobcats made the most of their five hits. Van Ness helped his own cause at the plate by driving in a game-high two runs, while D. Camilleri ripped an RBI double. Santino Imhof also chipped in with an RBI single. Noah Hanson was a catalyst on the basepaths, going 1-for-2 while scoring twice and stealing a base. Fox reached base three times via a hit and two walks, stealing two bases and scoring a run.
Defensively, Beecher played a flawless game with zero errors behind their dominant pitching staff. Camilleri anchored the defense, recording a game-high 15 putouts and an assist.
