Norkus Tosses Three-Inning Perfect Game as Beecher Offense Explodes in 18-0 Win Over Joliet West
Senior pitcher Taylor Norkus threw a three-inning perfect on game March 20, and the Beecher bats erupted for 16 hits as the Bobcats rolled to a commanding 18-0 road victory over Joliet West on Saturday.
Norkus was thoroughly dominant in the circle. The senior retired all nine Joliet West batters she faced in order, striking out five of them on just 33 total pitches. Her flawless outing secured the mercy-rule victory without allowing a single baserunner, completely shutting down the home team’s lineup.
While Norkus kept the Joliet West bats completely silenced, the Beecher offense went to work immediately. The Bobcats ambushed the Tigers in the top of the first inning, exploding for nine runs to put the game out of reach before Joliet West even had a chance to step to the plate. Beecher kept the pressure on, adding four more runs in the second inning and capping off the scoring with a five-run third frame.
Sophomore Carmela Irwin fueled the Bobcats’ relentless attack, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a game-high five RBIs and three runs scored. Senior M. Johnson was also flawless at the dish, turning in a 4-for-4 performance while driving in three runs and crossing the plate three times herself.
Senior Liliana Irwin delivered the game’s biggest extra-base hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs. Fellow senior Mia Chavez went 2-for-2 and scored three runs, while sophomore MaKenna Albert contributed two hits to the team’s impressive 16-hit total.
Joliet West struggled to find any defensive rhythm to support a pitching staff that found itself under constant pressure. The Tigers committed five individual fielding errors behind a combined pitching effort from Caitlin Jadron, Gabriela Juarez, Olivia Horn, and Mikaela Munoz. Juarez handled the bulk of the work in relief, allowing eight earned runs over two innings.
