Beecher Baseball Downs Rich Township 5-1 Behind Maher’s Dominant Start
The Beecher varsity baseball team put together a complete performance on Wednesday, leaning on lights-out pitching and timely hitting to secure a 5-1 non-conference home victory over Rich Township.
Chase Maher set the tone on the mound for Beecher. The starting pitcher was in command for 5.2 innings, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out eight to earn the victory. Santino Imhof came on in relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out one to slam the door and preserve the win.
Beecher methodically built its advantage early, striking first in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead before tacking on another run in the third.
Rich Township briefly cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth inning. Landon Hughes sparked the offense, eventually scoring the team’s lone run on an RBI double off the bat of Kobe Burnette. However, Beecher responded immediately. In the bottom half of the frame, the home team pushed across three crucial runs to extend their lead to 5-1 and put the game out of reach.
At the plate, Beecher tallied 10 hits, with Easton Lane and Santino Imhof serving as the primary run producers. Lane finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Imhof went a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Nicholas Fox and D. Camilleri also registered multi-hit games, each collecting two hits to keep the pressure on the Rich Township defense.
Jeremiah Henry took the loss for Rich Township, surrendering two earned runs on five hits over 3.1 innings. Kobe Burnette proved to be a bright spot for the visitors, striking out four in 2.2 innings of relief while pacing his team offensively with his RBI double.
