Coal City Pitchers Combine for Two-Hit Shutout in 3-0 Victory Over Beecher

A dominant combined performance on the mound propelled the Coal City varsity baseball team to a 3-0 non-conference road victory over Beecher on Saturday afternoon. Three Coal City pitchers joined forces to toss a two-hit shutout, overcoming a slew of free passes to keep the home team completely off the scoreboard.

The game was defined by Coal City’s ability to pitch out of trouble. Despite issuing seven walks and hitting two Beecher batters, the pitching trio of Kellen Forsythe, Connor Henline, and Lance Cuddy continuously delivered clutch outs, stranding eight Beecher runners on the basepaths throughout the afternoon.

Forsythe set the tone as the starter, tossing three scoreless innings. While he navigated around four walks, the junior struck out six Beecher batters and surrendered just one hit. Henline then took the ball in relief, earning the win with three scoreless innings of his own. Henline scattered one hit, walked two, and struck out three. Cuddy closed the door in the seventh, logging a hitless inning to seal the shutout.

Offensively, Coal City manufactured exactly what they needed against a stingy Beecher defense. The visitors broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, scratching across a run to take a 1-0 advantage. In the fifth, Coal City capitalized on a Beecher defensive miscue to add two crucial insurance runs, expanding their lead to 3-0.

Senior Gavin Berger and junior Connor Henline provided the run production for Coal City, each delivering an RBI on 1-for-1 and 1-for-2 days at the plate, respectively. C. Nicholson and Ethan Olson tallied the remaining hits for the victorious squad.

For Beecher, starting pitcher Santino Imhof was saddled with a tough-luck loss despite a solid effort. Imhof navigated 4.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs—only one of which was earned—while striking out two. Nicholas Fox provided flawless relief for the hosts, pitching 1.1 perfect innings with a strikeout to keep the game within reach.

Beecher’s offense struggled to find green grass against Coal City’s arms. D. Camilleri and Imhof recorded the only hits for the home team, both going 1-for-1. Fox showed great discipline at the plate, drawing three walks and adding a stolen base, but Beecher simply could not produce the timely hit needed to bring their runners home.
