Firefighters successfully extinguished a chimney fire that spread to the roof of a single-story home in Manhattan on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

The Manhattan Fire Protection District was dispatched to a residence in the 29000 block of South Egyptian Trail at approximately 8:16 a.m. Emergency crews arrived on the scene within eight minutes of the initial call to find active fire extending from the home’s chimney directly into the roof structure.

Due to the rural nature of the neighborhood and the lack of municipal fire hydrants, command requested a Full Still alarm. This tactical decision initiated a mutual aid response from neighboring departments to ensure adequate water supply and additional manpower were available at the scene.

Fire crews worked swiftly to attack the flames, bringing the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.

According to the Manhattan Fire Protection District, all occupants were safely out of the home, and no injuries were reported during the incident.

The exact cause of the fire currently remains under investigation. The Manhattan Fire Protection District publicly thanked its mutual aid partners for their assistance in combating the blaze.
