Article Summary: The Washington Township Board unanimously approved a $10,000 sponsorship for the Village of Beecher’s 2026 Concert in the Park series, though officials requested better on-site amenities and more prominent recognition for the township’s financial support.

Concert Sponsorship Key Points:

  • The board approved a $10,000 sponsorship to support the Village of Beecher’s 2026 outdoor concert series.

  • Clerk Joseph Burgess, who sits on the Village’s planning committee, presented the funding request to the board.

  • Trustee Tracy Heldt voiced concerns over the resident experience, requesting better signage, adequate food and beverages, and clearer recognition of the township’s sponsorship.

  • The measure passed by a unanimous voice vote after officials agreed to relay the requested improvements to the concert committee.

The Washington Township Board of Trustees on Monday, February 2, 2026, unanimously approved a $10,000 sponsorship for the Village of Beecher’s 2026 Concert in the Park series, though the financial backing came with specific requests for operational improvements.

Clerk Joseph Burgess, who serves as the township’s representative on the Village’s Concert in the Park Committee, presented the request during the new business portion of the meeting. Burgess informed the board that the committee was scheduled to meet on February 3 and needed an immediate response regarding the township’s $10,000 commitment, as organizers had already begun contacting musical acts for the summer lineup.

Trustees Mark Herlitz and George Obradovich immediately voiced their support for the expenditure, noting that the concert series is an excellent, all-ages program that benefits the entire community.

However, Trustee Tracy Heldt expressed reservations regarding the event’s current execution and whether the township was receiving appropriate recognition for its substantial financial involvement. Heldt stressed that the overall experience for residents needed improvement, specifically pointing to a lack of adequate signage and a need for more reliable food and beverage options during the events. Furthermore, she insisted that the township must be clearly credited for its share of the sponsorship.

Despite her critiques, Heldt stated she would support the funding for the 2026 season with the strict expectation that the village committee actively implements those improvements. Burgess assured the board he would formally report their concerns and requests at the committee’s planning session.

Following the discussion, Trustee Obradovich made a motion to approve the $10,000 sponsorship for the 2026 “Concert in the Park” series with the Village of Beecher. Trustee Herlitz seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved by a voice vote without further debate.
