Harrington-Dewitt Outduels Beecher Pitching Staff as St. Anne Grinds Out 3-1 Win

A dominant pitching performance from P. Harrington-Dewitt led the St. Anne varsity baseball team to a hard-fought 3-1 conference victory over host Beecher on Tuesday. Relying on aggressive baserunning and timely power hitting, St. Anne managed to scrape together just enough offense to support their starter’s complete-game gem.

St. Anne jumped out to an early lead, pushing an unearned run across the plate in the top of the first inning. That early run proved critical, setting the tone for a tense, low-scoring pitchers’ duel that defined the remainder of the afternoon.

Harrington-Dewitt was the story of the game for St. Anne. The right-hander tossed a complete game, scattering four hits and allowing just one earned run over seven innings. He was incredibly efficient, requiring only 95 pitches to navigate the Beecher lineup, striking out seven and inducing inning-ending double plays to escape jams.

Beecher’s pitching staff was equally impressive, keeping the team in the game from start to finish. Starter Chase Maher took the loss despite a solid outing, striking out six batters over two innings of work. Gavin Van Ness entered in relief and was sensational, tossing five innings and allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out seven. Combined, the Beecher pitching staff racked up 13 strikeouts while allowing a mere three hits.

However, St. Anne manufactured offense through chaos on the basepaths. The visitors recorded seven stolen bases as a team, constantly putting pressure on the Beecher defense and forcing two costly errors. Raleigh Hays and M. Langellier led the charge with two steals apiece.

Beecher’s lone breakthrough came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gavin Van Ness helped his own cause at the plate, ripping an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. Santino Imhof also had a strong day at the plate for the hosts, finishing 2-for-3.

The tie was broken in the top of the sixth inning when Brandon Schoth provided the decisive blow. Schoth launched a two-run home run, propelling St. Anne to a 3-1 advantage.

Armed with the lead, Harrington-Dewitt closed the door. He retired the Beecher lineup in order in the bottom of the sixth and worked around a walk in the seventh to secure the complete-game victory.
