Johnson’s Five RBIs and Combined Shutout Power Beecher Past St. Anne 18-0

The Beecher varsity softball team delivered a relentless offensive showcase and a lockdown pitching performance on Tuesday, cruising to an 18-0 road conference victory over St. Anne. Racking up 17 hits and capitalizing on five St. Anne errors, Beecher secured the four-inning, run-rule victory in decisive fashion.

Beecher seized control from the opening pitch, erupting for eight runs in the top of the first inning to immediately put the hosts on their heels. The offensive barrage continued without pause, as Beecher added three runs in the second inning, four in the third, and three final runs in the fourth to cement the 18-0 margin.

Senior Makenzie Johnson was the centerpiece of Beecher’s explosive lineup, turning in a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Johnson launched a home run, scored twice, and drove in a game-high five RBIs. Freshman Anna Westerhoff was also a major run producer, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

The depth of the Beecher lineup proved too much for the St. Anne defense. Senior Elena Kvasnicka set the table consistently, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Sophomores Maddy Grooms and Allie Johnson each delivered a pair of hits and two RBIs, with Grooms adding a double to the team’s extra-base tally. Senior Mia Chavez highlighted her afternoon with an RBI triple and crossed the plate twice, while Grace Wuest finished a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

While the offense built an insurmountable lead, Beecher’s pitching staff quietly dominated in the circle. Sophomores Carmela Irwin and Allie Johnson combined to toss a four-inning shutout, racking up 10 strikeouts while scattering just three hits.

Irwin earned the start, striking out five batters over two scoreless innings while working around two hits and a walk. Johnson took over in relief for the final two frames, slamming the door by striking out five of the seven batters she faced and allowing just one hit. The duo received flawless backing from the Beecher defense, which did not commit a single error in the contest.

St. Anne struggled to mount any sustained momentum against the dominant Beecher pitching duo. Unable to string hits together and plagued by defensive miscues, the hosts were kept off the board before the run rule ended the game in the fourth inning.
