Norkus Tosses Perfect Game as Beecher Demolishes St. Anne 19-0

Senior pitcher Taylor Norkus was absolutely flawless in the circle on Tuesday, tossing a four-inning perfect game to lead the Beecher varsity softball team to a 19-0 home conference victory over St. Anne. Supported by a relentless offense that capitalized on a collapse by the St. Anne defense, Beecher secured a dominant run-rule sweep.

Norkus was the undisputed star of the afternoon. Facing just 12 batters over four innings, she struck out 10, retiring the side in order in every frame. She threw an incredibly efficient 48 pitches, locating her spots perfectly and completely overmatching the St. Anne lineup. She did not issue a single walk or allow a baserunner of any kind.

The Beecher offense mirrored Norkus’s dominance, erupting for nine runs in the opening frame before adding six more in the second inning to build an insurmountable 15-0 advantage. However, the run total was largely a product of defensive chaos by the visitors. St. Anne committed six errors, extending innings and allowing 14 unearned runs to cross the plate.

Beecher’s lineup relentlessly turned the order over, compiling 14 hits without recording a single strikeout. Senior Mia Chavez led the offensive barrage, finishing a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Sophomore Maddy Grooms also delivered a perfect day, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs.

The run production came from top to bottom. Senior Elena Kvasnicka crushed a double in her lone at-bat, finishing 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a run scored. Freshmen Karsyn Kasput and Anna Westerhoff each drove in a run while registering a hit. Sophomores Carmela Irwin and Grace Wuest each added a pair of hits and crossed the plate twice.

Tatum Kirkand took the loss in the circle for St. Anne, throwing two innings and surrendering nine hits. Due to the errors behind her, only three of the 16 runs she allowed were earned. Tessa DeYoung pitched the final inning in relief, allowing three runs on three hits.

Beecher capped their offensive explosion with a four-run third inning. With the 15-run threshold easily surpassed, the game was called following a perfect top of the fourth inning by Norkus, cementing the 19-0 victory.
