Manteno Track and Field Sweeps Triangular Meet Titles Over Beecher, Peotone

MANTENO, Ill. — The Manteno high school track and field program defended its home turf in dominant fashion on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ team titles at the Manteno Triangular. Showcasing impressive depth across sprints, hurdles, and field events, the Manteno boys tallied 78 points to comfortably outpace Beecher (46.5) and Peotone (35.5). In the girls’ division, Manteno secured 68 points to narrowly hold off a late push from Beecher (61) and pull away from Peotone (25).

The Manteno boys’ squad was fueled by exceptional performances in the sprints and hurdles. Junior Briggs Cann was a double-winner on the track, claiming first in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best 22.97 seconds and capturing the 400-meter title in 51.25. Teammate Alexsander Lane won the 100-meter dash in 11.31 seconds, and the pair teamed up with David Skonieczny and Caden Reiter to secure the 4×100-meter relay crown in 44.03.

Manteno also dominated the hurdle events, with Nicholas Honkisz taking the 110-meter hurdles in 17.51 seconds and Carter Stell securing the 300-meter hurdles in 43.66 seconds. Honkisz later added a victory in the triple jump (11.74m).

Peotone’s premier performer on the men’s side was senior Omero Isais, who was unmatched in the throwing rings. Isais cleanly swept the heavy events, taking the shot put with an 11.74-meter heave and winning the discus with a 31.54-meter toss. Beecher, meanwhile, found success in the distance and jumping events. Senior Carl Webb claimed the 1600-meter run in 5:24.37, while Wences Baumgartner won the long jump (5.85m) and Conner Cochrane cleared 1.72 meters to win the high jump.

On the women’s side, Manteno’s path to victory was paved by a series of individual sweeps across the track and the field. Klarke Goranson demonstrated remarkable versatility, winning the 400-meter dash (1:02.55) and outlasting the field in the 3200-meter run (11:28.48). Sawyer Maveety controlled the hurdles, sweeping the 100-meter (17.57) and 300-meter (55.42) events.

In the field, Manteno’s girls were nearly untouchable. Sophia Most swept the throws with a 9.91-meter shot put and a 32.90-meter discus throw. Adalyn Cox claimed both horizontal jumps, winning the long jump (4.57m) and triple jump (8.64m), while Olivia McElroy secured the high jump title with a 1.55-meter clearance.

Beecher kept the team race incredibly tight thanks to a masterclass in sprinting by Lanaya Kellum, who won the 100-meter (13.63) and 200-meter (28.66) dashes. Beecher also utilized a deep roster to sweep all four girls’ relays, crossing the line first in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800-meter events. Peotone’s top finishes included strong runner-up placements by Avery Lenz in the 200 meters and Annalyse Bergeron in the shot put.

Scoring Drives

  • First Quarter (Sprints & Hurdles): Manteno set the tone early with wins from Alexsander Lane (Boys 100m) and Briggs Cann (Boys 200m, 400m). Beecher’s Lanaya Kellum countered by sweeping the Girls 100m and 200m dashes. Manteno’s Sawyer Maveety swept the girls’ hurdles.

  • Second Quarter (Distance Events): Beecher’s Carl Webb took the Boys 1600m, while Manteno’s Seth McHugh won the 3200m. Manteno’s Klarke Goranson showcased endurance with a Girls 3200m victory, and Beecher’s Rachel Imig claimed the Girls 1600m.

  • Third Quarter (Relays): The Beecher girls executed a flawless sweep, winning the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800 relays to rack up significant points. The Manteno boys responded with a win in the 4×100, while Beecher took the boys’ 4×200 and 4×400.

  • Fourth Quarter (Field Events): Peotone’s Omero Isais dominated the boys’ throws, sweeping the shot put and discus. Manteno’s Sophia Most mirrored that feat on the girls’ side. Manteno’s Adalyn Cox swept the girls’ horizontal jumps to seal the overall team title.
