Norkus Throws Two-Hit Shutout, Strikes Out 10 as Beecher Softball Blanks Munster

Senior ace Taylor Norkus delivered a masterful performance in the circle, tossing a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to lead the Beecher varsity softball team to a 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Munster (IN) on Thursday afternoon.

Norkus was in complete control from the first pitch, efficiently carving through the Munster lineup. She did not issue a single walk over seven complete innings, facing just 23 batters and relying on pinpoint command to keep the visitors off balance all game.

Beecher’s offense provided all the run support Norkus would need early in the contest, manufacturing a run in the bottom of the first inning. The home team played opportunistic softball, leaning on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to steadily build their lead.

Sophomore Grace Wuest paced the Beecher attack at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Senior M. Johnson was a disruptive force on the basepaths, finishing 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk, a run scored, and a pair of stolen bases. Sophomore MaKenna Albert also contributed a hit and crossed the plate for Beecher, while Allie Johnson added a base hit to round out the team’s five-hit afternoon.

Despite taking the loss, Munster junior Ally Compton turned in a gritty complete-game effort in the circle. Compton pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six and navigating around four walks to keep her team within striking distance.

Munster’s offense, however, could not solve Norkus. Compton helped her own cause with a base hit, and freshman Izzy Tristan accounted for the team’s only other hit.

Both teams showcased flawless defense behind their pitchers, cleanly fielding the ball for a combined zero errors on the day. Beecher added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to safely put the game out of reach, securing the 3-0 shutout.
