The Dwight High School track and field program delivered a commanding all-around performance on Friday, April 10, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ team titles at the 2026 St. Anne Invitational.

Relying on a barrage of multi-event winners in the sprints, distance, and field disciplines, the Dwight boys amassed 160 points to run away with the team championship, outpacing host St. Anne (75) and Beecher (74). The girls’ competition proved to be a tighter race, but Dwight ultimately edged out Clifton Central by a margin of 135 to 123 to complete the sweep.

The boys’ meet was defined by several dominant individual performances, particularly from the Dwight roster. Distance specialist Joe Faris controlled the track, taking first place in both the 800 meters (1:57.04) and the 1600 meters (4:49.37). Teammate Joseph Duffy was equally untouchable in the hurdles, claiming gold in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.14 and returning to win the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 43.08.

In the field events, Dwight’s Graham Meister put on a spectacular showcase of strength. Meister won the shot put with a commanding toss of 18.28 meters and blew away the competition in the discus with a 49.73-meter throw. Dwight also secured victories in the 4×400 and 4×800 relays, alongside individual wins from Tysen Walker in the 400 meters (52.56) and Collin Bachand in the high jump (1.82m).

Despite Dwight’s runaway team victory, several athletes from the surrounding schools made their mark. St. Anne’s Aden Pinson defended his home track with a sweep of the short sprints, clocking an 11.38 in the 100 meters and a 23.50 in the 200 meters. Pinson also anchored the host team’s victorious 4×100 relay squad (46.03). Meanwhile, Crete-Monee Illinois Lutheran’s Dawveed Holland ruled the horizontal jumps, winning the long jump (6.31m) and the triple jump (14.17m).

On the girls’ side, Dwight used a balanced attack on the track to hold off a resilient Clifton Central squad. Freshman sprinter Chloe Leithliter emerged as a breakout star, sweeping the 100 meters (13.67) and 200 meters (28.15), while also contributing to Dwight’s winning 4×100 relay team. Mikayla Chambers added critical points for Dwight by securing double victories in the 800 meters (2:22.86) and the 300-meter hurdles (48.38). June Woods added a win in the 400 meters (1:03.90) and helped Dwight capture the 4×400 relay title.

Clifton Central kept the team race dramatic by dominating the field events and middle relays. Ashtynn Rosenbrock earned a pair of decisive victories in the throws, taking the shot put with a 10.25-meter mark and the discus with a 36.64-meter hurl. Katelyn Schultz added a first-place finish in the high jump (1.22m), while Clifton Central’s 4×200 relay team also took home top honors (1:54.01).

Other notable performances in the girls’ competition included Beecher’s Maeve Mcdermott, who won the 1600 meters in 5:54.29, and Madison Smith, who leaped to victory in the long jump (4.53m). Watseka’s Vanysah Hickman rounded out the top field performers by claiming the triple jump title with a mark of 9.18 meters.
