Beecher Varsity Softball Powers Past Sterling 12-1 Behind Johnson’s Two-Hitter
Sophomore Allie Johnson pitched a complete-game two-hitter, and the Beecher offense erupted for 11 hits to secure a commanding 12-1 non-conference victory over host Sterling in a five-inning matchup on Saturday.
After a scoreless opening frame, Beecher broke the game open in the top of the second inning, plating three runs to take control. The visitors kept the pressure on, adding three more runs in the third and blowing the contest wide open with a five-run fourth inning.
The Beecher lineup showcased plenty of power, highlighted by home runs from senior Liliana Irwin and sophomore Grace Wuest. Irwin sparked the offense with a game-high four RBIs and two runs scored, while Wuest finished the day with three RBIs and crossed the plate twice. Senior Elena Kvasnicka and sophomore Allie Johnson provided steady production, each collecting three hits to pace the offensive attack. Senior M. Johnson also had a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
In the circle, Allie Johnson was dominant for Beecher. The right-hander shut down the Sterling offense, allowing just two hits and one unearned run over five innings. She struck out six batters and issued zero walks in a highly efficient 73-pitch outing. The Beecher defense provided flawless support behind her, completing the game without committing an error.
Sterling struggled to find an offensive rhythm against Johnson. Breanna Taylor and Olivia Castillo provided the only hits for the home team, and Sterling pushed across its lone unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Defensive miscues proved costly for Sterling, as four errors led to six unearned runs for Beecher. Lily Martinez took the loss for Sterling, allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits over three innings of work.
Beecher tacked on a final run in the fifth inning to cap the scoring and enforce the run rule, sealing the emphatic 12-1 road victory.
