Senior Taylor Norkus struck out 13 batters over six scoreless innings to lead the Beecher varsity softball team to a commanding 9-0 non-conference victory on the road against Harvard on Saturday. Norkus anchored a combined five-hit shutout, overwhelming the Harvard lineup without issuing a single walk during her 81-pitch performance.

The Beecher offense provided early run support, plating a single run in the first inning before breaking the game wide open in the middle frames. A four-run surge in the fourth inning gave the visitors a comfortable 5-0 advantage, as Beecher capitalized on a 10-hit attack and four Harvard defensive errors throughout the afternoon.

Sophomore Grace Wuest provided the power for the visitors, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Carmela Irwin helped her own cause with a perfect day at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Senior M. Johnson was a constant presence on the basepaths, collecting three hits—including a triple—while scoring three times. Senior Mia Chavez added two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

Beecher tacked on an insurance run in the fifth and capped the scoring with a three-run sixth inning to cruise to the 9-0 final. Irwin relieved Norkus in the seventh, pitching a scoreless final inning with one strikeout to seal the victory.
