Clifton Central Powers Past Beecher 11-8 in High-Scoring Conference Matchup
A combined eight-run outburst across the fourth and fifth innings propelled the Clifton Central varsity baseball team to an 11-8 home conference victory over Beecher on Tuesday afternoon. Both lineups found their rhythm in the middle innings, but Clifton Central’s timely hitting and capitalization on Beecher’s defensive miscues ultimately secured the win.
The game began as a tightly contested affair, with both teams trading single runs in the opening frame. Clifton Central broke the deadlock in the bottom of the second, pushing across a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead.
Beecher’s offense came alive in the top of the fourth, manufacturing two runs to tie the game at 3-3. However, Clifton Central delivered a swift and decisive response in the bottom half of the inning. The home team erupted for four runs, chasing Beecher starting pitcher Chase Maher and reclaiming a commanding 7-3 advantage. Defensive struggles plagued Beecher throughout the contest, as they committed four errors that led to three unearned runs during Maher’s outing.
Refusing to back down, the Beecher bats went to work in the top of the fifth. The visitors mounted a three-run rally, powered by the long ball, to narrow the deficit to 7-6. Tyler Doran and Gavin Van Ness both launched home runs for Beecher, driving in three and two runs on the day, respectively. Santino Imhof also had a standout performance at the plate for the visitors, going 3-for-4 with a double. Easton Lane contributed significantly with a 2-for-4 effort that included a pair of RBIs.
Despite Beecher’s relentless pressure, Clifton Central had an answer for every surge. In the bottom of the fifth, Clifton struck back with another four-run inning off reliever Van Ness, expanding their lead to 11-6. Beecher managed to plate two more runs in the top of the sixth, but the Clifton Central pitching staff tightened up in the seventh to close out the 11-8 victory.
Maher took the loss for Beecher, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits over 3.1 innings while striking out four. Van Ness pitched the final 2.2 innings, yielding four earned runs on three hits and striking out two.
