Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin Sweeps Team Titles at Watseka Coed Meet #3

The Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin (BHRA) track and field program put together a masterclass of depth and execution, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ team championships at the Watseka Coed Meet #3 on Thursday, April 16.

Operating with precision across the sprints, distance, and field events, the BHRA boys amassed 188 points, more than doubling runner-up Hoopeston Area (77). The Blue Devil girls were equally overpowering, compiling 189 points to easily outdistance second-place Momence (56) and third-place Armstrong (52).

The BHRA boys controlled the relays and the field to secure their commanding victory. Vince Lane and Conner Powell led the way in the throwing rings, with Lane taking the discus title on a 45.14-meter toss and Powell winning the shot put with a 16.18-meter mark. The Blue Devils also showcased their speed and stamina by claiming gold in the 4×200 (1:31.58), 4×400 (3:41.33), and 4×800 (10:11.06) relays. Individual triumphs from Mason Cunningham in the 200 meters (22.80), Kyler Perez in the 300-meter hurdles (42.65), and Dylan Davis in the long jump (6.13m) further cemented the team’s dominant afternoon.

Hoopeston Area secured a comfortable second-place finish in the boys’ standings, buoyed by a strong showing in the middle and long distances. Keenon Anderson broke the tape in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 51.68, while Owen Garrett took the 1600 meters in 4:51.51 and Eli Hasting outlasted the field in the 3200 meters (11:16.22).

Other notable boys’ performances included Armstrong’s Ethan Holden winning the 100-meter dash in 11.72 and teammate Jaiden Burd claiming the 110-meter hurdles in 16.88. Peotone’s Tyler Walker took home the 800-meter title (2:09.69), while Adam Murray cleared 1.87 meters to win the high jump. Beecher’s Wences Baumgartner secured the triple jump crown with an 11.84-meter leap, and Momence captured the 4×100 relay (46.33) behind a strong anchor leg from Anthony Jones.

On the girls’ side, BHRA’s Natalie Thomason delivered an individual showcase, winning three separate events. Thomason swept the hurdles, taking the 100-meter highs in 16.03 and the 300-meter lows in 46.94, before adding a high jump victory with a clearance of 1.57 meters. Teammate Nevaeh Scott controlled the short sprints, claiming both the 100 meters (12.96) and 200 meters (28.16).

The BHRA girls mirrored the boys’ relay success, winning the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×800 events, while Shelby Jameson contributed a victory in the discus (27.87m) and Aleah Potter crossed first in the 3200 meters (13:15.12).

Despite BHRA’s runaway point total, several athletes from the surrounding schools broke through for individual event wins. Milford’s Addison Lucht proved dominant in the horizontal jumps, sweeping the long jump (5.00m) and the triple jump (10.62m). Hoopeston Area’s Analia Marshall ran a personal-best 1:05.65 to win the 400 meters, and Beecher’s Rachel Imig secured the 800-meter title in 2:35.33.

Armstrong’s Addyson Tholl added a first-place finish in the 1600 meters (6:19.13), Peotone captured the 4×400 relay in 4:36.08, and host Watseka celebrated a victory in the throwing ring when Gabby Kohl tossed the shot put 9.73 meters for the win.
