The Beecher varsity softball team utilized a massive second inning and a combined three-hit shutout to secure a 10-0, five-inning conference victory over visiting Clifton Central on Thursday afternoon.

Beecher broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the first inning, manufacturing a single run to take the lead. The offense truly exploded in the second frame. Capitalizing on a struggling Clifton Central defense that committed four errors on the day, Beecher pushed seven runs across the plate to blow the game wide open. Beecher tallied two final insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth to ultimately trigger the run rule.

Elena Kvasnicka was flawless at the plate, pacing the Beecher lineup with a perfect 3-for-3 performance. She drove in a run, scored three times, and doubled to consistently set the table for the hosts. Anna Westerhoff also delivered a clutch hit, doubling and driving in a run as part of a 1-for-1 day. Allie Johnson and Maddy Grooms each contributed perfect 2-for-2 performances, with Johnson driving in a pair of runs and Grooms scoring twice.

In the circle, Beecher utilized a trio of pitchers to blank the Clifton Central lineup. Carmela Irwin got the start and tossed two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out a pair. Taylor Norkus earned the win in relief, striking out four batters and yielding just one hit over her two innings of work. Allie Johnson came on to close out the game in the fifth, striking out two and issuing one walk to preserve the shutout.

Chloe Cotter took the loss for Clifton Central. She pitched four innings, allowing 10 runs (only four earned) on six hits while striking out two. Cotter was also the most effective offensive player for the visitors, finishing 2-for-3 with a double. Rayven Perkins added a hit for Clifton Central, but the visitors were ultimately overmatched by Beecher’s highly efficient pitching and unrelenting offense.
