Easton Lane’s Two-Way Heroics, 17-Hit Attack Lift Beecher Past Milford in 14-13 Thriller
The Beecher varsity baseball team survived a wild, back-and-forth slugfest on Saturday, outlasting host Milford 14-13 in a non-conference battle that featured 30 combined hits and constant lead changes.
Milford jumped out to an early advantage, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first inning to put the visitors on their heels. However, Beecher responded immediately with a four-run second inning to take a 5-4 lead, setting the tone for an afternoon of relentless offense. Chase Maher and Santino Imhof were virtually unstoppable at the plate, collecting four hits apiece to pace Beecher’s 17-hit attack. Maher finished 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, four runs scored, and two RBIs, while Imhof went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs.
The two teams traded blows in the middle frames, highlighted by a chaotic fifth inning in which both sides plated four runs. Easton Lane provided the biggest swing of the day for Beecher, blasting a home run while reaching base securely in his other appearances to finish 1-for-1 with two RBIs, two runs scored, two walks, and a sacrifice fly. Nicholas Fox was highly efficient off the bench, delivering a perfect 2-for-2 performance with two RBIs, and Tyler Doran contributed a pair of hits and an RBI to the balanced effort.
Clinging to a 10-10 tie entering the sixth inning, Beecher erupted for four runs to take a 14-10 lead. The insurance runs proved critical as the game reached its final stage.
Beecher utilized three pitchers on the day to navigate the heavy traffic. Maher got the start and battled through 3.2 innings, striking out four. Doran provided 1.1 innings of relief before Lane took over on the mound for the final two frames. The Beecher defense struggled to consistently support its pitching staff, committing five errors that allowed Milford to score a slew of unearned runs. Milford mounted a furious final rally in the bottom of the seventh, pushing three runs across the plate to cut the deficit to a single run. However, Lane maintained his composure, ultimately striking out four batters over his two innings of work to shut the door and earn the gritty 14-13 victory.
