Late Rally Propels Wilmington Past Beecher 7-5

The Wilmington varsity baseball team mounted a decisive four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a late deficit and secure a 7-5 home victory over non-conference opponent Beecher on Friday.

Trailing 5-3 entering the sixth frame, the Wilmington offense found its stride against the Beecher bullpen. The Wildcats capitalized on a pair of walks and timely hitting to plate four runs and permanently alter the momentum of the game. Zach Ohlund provided the power for the home team, launching a home run and finishing 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and three runs scored. Nash Rink also came through in the clutch, delivering a crucial triple to spark the offense and crossing the plate twice. Declan Moran paced Wilmington with two hits on the afternoon.

Colin VanDuyne earned the victory in relief for the Wildcats with a brilliant performance. Entering the game in the fourth inning after Beecher chased starter Dane VanDuyne from the mound, Colin tossed 3.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four, completely shutting down the Beecher bats and giving his offense the opportunity to mount the comeback.

Beecher had initially seized control in the top of the fourth inning. Prior to that frame, the game was a 2-0 Wilmington lead, but the Beecher offense erupted for five runs. Santino Imhof highlighted the outburst with a home run and finished 2-for-4. Noah Hanson was also a major contributor for the visitors, crushing a home run of his own and driving in three runs. Chase Maher added a pair of hits for Beecher.

Nicholas Fox took the hard-luck loss for Beecher. The starter battled through 5.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits while striking out four. However, he also issued five walks, providing Wilmington with the baserunners they eventually capitalized on in the pivotal sixth inning. Gavin Van Ness recorded the final two outs in relief, but the Wildcats held firm in the top of the seventh to complete the 7-5 victory.
