Sophomores Carmela Irwin and Allie Johnson combined to pitch a four-inning perfect game on Tuesday, leading the Beecher varsity softball team to a 16-0 conference victory over visiting Illinois Lutheran.

The Beecher pitching duo was completely flawless in the circle, retiring all 12 batters they faced to secure the run-rule victory. Irwin started the contest and set a dominant tone, striking out eight over three perfect innings of work. Johnson entered in the fourth inning and slammed the door shut, striking out the side to finish off the combined perfect game. Together, the pair struck out 11 of the 12 batters they faced, needing just 37 pitches to complete the masterpiece.

While the pitching staff was untouchable, the Beecher (25-26) offense provided overwhelming run support. The hosts capitalized on nine walks and five Illinois Lutheran fielding errors, needing only eight hits to push 16 runs across the plate. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Beecher blew the game wide open with a massive 12-run eruption in the second frame.

Freshman Karsyn Kasput and sophomore Grace Wuest anchored the Beecher lineup, each driving in three runs. Kasput finished a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Wuest went 2-for-3. Senior Mia Chavez was also perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Senior Liliana Irwin delivered the biggest hit of the afternoon, ripping a triple to go 1-for-1 with an RBI, a walk, and three runs scored. MaKenna Albert added a double for the hosts, and Emma Henderson drew a pair of walks to keep the offensive carousel moving.

Illinois Lutheran (25-26) struggled in all facets of the game, unable to generate a single baserunner while committing five costly errors in the field. The game was called after the top of the fourth inning due to the 15-run mercy rule.
