The Beecher varsity softball team utilized timely hitting and a stellar combined pitching performance to secure a 4-0 non-conference road victory over Wilmington on Thursday afternoon.

Beecher (25-26) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning and never looked back. Senior M. Johnson provided the biggest highlight of the afternoon for the visitors, launching a solo home run. Johnson paced the Beecher offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. The visitors steadily added to their lead, scratching across single runs in the second and sixth innings before a two-run seventh inning put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Carmela Irwin continued her hot hitting for Beecher, going 2-for-3. Grace Wuest, Mia Chavez, Maddy Grooms, and Elena Kvasnicka all chipped in with hits to keep the offensive pressure on the Wilmington defense.

In the circle, Beecher’s pitching staff was completely dominant. Senior Taylor Norkus started the game and was untouchable over 1.2 innings, striking out three batters and allowing zero baserunners. Sophomore Allie Johnson entered in relief and slammed the door, earning the win after tossing 5.1 scoreless innings. Johnson scattered four hits, walked two, and struck out six, consistently working her way out of any trouble.

Wilmington (25-26) managed just four hits on the afternoon and struggled to string together consistent offense against the Beecher pitching duo. Sophomore Madisyn Rossow led the hosts with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate, while Nina Egizio and T. Stefancic each added a hit. The hosts managed to swipe three bases—courtesy of Rossow, Egizio, and Molly Southall—but were unable to manufacture a run.

Senior Lexi Strohm took a tough-luck loss for Wilmington, tossing a complete game. Strohm allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five without issuing a single walk.
