Village of Beecher Meeting | April 13, 2026

The Beecher Village Board met on Monday, April 13, 2026, to advance a variety of legislative, financial, and public safety items. In addition to high-profile discussions regarding the Route 1 intersection and local infrastructure policies, the board approved monthly expenditures, advanced new police wellness initiatives, and updated local park usage policies. The board adjourned the public portion of the meeting to enter an executive session to discuss personnel matters, specifically related to extending a conditional offer of employment for a police officer position.

Financial Approvals and Tax Revenue:
The board unanimously approved the monthly list of bills totaling $110,374.51. In her monthly report, Village Clerk Denise Abbink announced that the total tax revenue received by the village in March was $258,338.11. Additionally, the board reminded the public that a hearing on the proposed FY26/27 Budget will be held on Monday, April 27, at 6:00 p.m.

Mental Health Screening for Police:
The board unanimously authorized the Police Chief to execute an agreement with Guardian First Responder Services to provide mental health screening services for the department. Trustee Joe Tieri noted that the agreement will assist with promoting officer wellness while maintaining local compliance with the state’s SAFE-T Act, which mandates regular mental health evaluations for officers.

Active Shooter Kits Donated to Police:
The Village of Beecher formally recognized the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association for the donation of two rifle plates and active shooter kits to the police department. Trustee Joe Tieri reported that the protective gear has already been deployed and placed into active squad cars for emergency use.

Park and Athletic Facility Usage Policy Updates:
The board unanimously directed the village attorney to draft a resolution amending the Village Park and Athletic Facility Usage Policy and Fee Schedule. Discussion primarily centered on implementing refundable deposits to cover potential property damage and cleanup costs. The board is also evaluating whether to shift away from standard 6-hour rental blocks in favor of full-day rentals to prevent overlapping logistical issues and messes between different renting parties.

Oktoberfest Permit Approved for Firemen’s Park:
The board unanimously approved a permit application submitted by Peace Lutheran Church to host an Oktoberfest event at Firemen’s Park. The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with an estimated attendance of 350 people.

Youth Commission Fishing Derby:
Trustee Jessica Smith announced that the Beecher Youth Commission will host a Fishing Derby at the Monee Reservoir on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Residents interested in attending must register in advance on the village website.
