The Beecher varsity softball team secured a decisive 10-5 non-conference victory on the road against St. Joseph-Ogden on Saturday, fueled by a powerful offensive performance and a massive six-run sixth inning.

Beecher established control early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning and adding another in the third to build a 3-0 lead. The game remained quiet through the middle innings until the top of the sixth, when the Beecher offense exploded. The visitors pushed six runs across the plate, extending their advantage to a commanding 9-0.

St. Joseph-Ogden refused to go quietly, immediately responding with a five-run rally in the bottom half of the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-5. However, Beecher added an insurance run in the seventh and shut the door on any final comeback attempts.

Senior pitcher Taylor Norkus was a steady force in the circle for Beecher, going the distance to earn the win. Over seven complete innings, Norkus threw 130 pitches, striking out 10 batters while allowing five hits and just two earned runs.

At the plate, Beecher tallied 11 total hits, paced by an outstanding day from senior M. Johnson. Johnson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a double, and a pair of triples. Sophomores Grace Wuest and MaKenna Albert each delivered key performances as well, with both players logging two hits and driving in three runs. Sophomore Carmela Irwin also factored heavily into the scoring, hitting two doubles and crossing the plate three times.

Beecher aggressively worked the basepaths, tallying four stolen bases as a team. Capitalizing on three St. Joseph-Ogden errors, the visitors consistently found ways to keep the pressure on defensively to secure the win.
