CHICAGO ALDERMEN CALL FOR SAFE-T ACT CHANGES

At least two Chicago aldermen are calling for changes to Illinois’ SAFE-T Act after a man with seven felony convictions escaped electronic monitoring and allegedly killed Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew on Saturday.

Alderman Silvana Tabares said in a social media post that Springfield must change the law to expand detainable offenses, strengthen revocation of pretrial release, allow for consideration of criminal history for detainment, and close the 48-hour window for electronic monitoring.
