Sophomore pitcher Allie Johnson delivered a masterpiece in the circle on Wednesday, spinning a one-hit shutout to lead the Beecher varsity softball team to a 5-0 home non-conference victory over Peotone.

Johnson was in absolute command from the first pitch to the last. Facing 22 batters over seven complete innings, she overpowered the Peotone lineup, striking out 13 without issuing a single walk. Operating with exceptional efficiency, Johnson needed just 78 pitches to navigate the complete-game shutout and keep the visitors off the basepaths.

The contest began as a brisk pitcher’s duel, with Peotone senior starter S. Klawitter matching Johnson zero-for-zero through the first two innings. However, the Beecher offense broke the deadlock in the bottom of the third inning.

Finding the gaps in the outfield, the hosts plated three runs to take a 3-0 advantage. Extra-base hits fueled the surge, with senior M. Johnson and sophomore MaKenna Albert each legging out a triple.

Beecher’s lineup struck again to add crucial insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior Liliana Irwin provided the exclamation point on the afternoon, launching a home run that drove in two runs and extended the lead to a comfortable 5-0 margin.

Sophomore Carmela Irwin was a steady presence at the plate for the hosts, turning in a perfect 2-for-2 performance with an RBI and a run scored.

For Peotone, junior Payton Schnelle recorded the team’s lone hit of the afternoon, breaking up the no-hitter but ultimately being left stranded. Despite taking the loss, Klawitter pitched a highly effective complete game for the visitors, striking out nine Beecher batters without allowing a walk over six innings.

Defensively, it was a pristine afternoon for both programs, as Beecher and Peotone concluded the contest without committing a single error.
