Massive Fourth Inning, Maher’s Pitching Power Beecher Past Peotone 11-1
The Beecher varsity baseball team utilized a staggering eight-run fourth inning and a dominant complete-game performance from Chase Maher to secure an 11-1 non-conference victory over visiting Peotone on Wednesday. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Beecher managed to strike early, scratching across a single run in the bottom of the first inning to take a narrow 1-0 advantage. For the next two frames, Peotone starting pitcher Cole Peppers managed to keep the home team’s offense at bay, holding the deficit to a single run heading into the fourth.
However, the game blew wide open in the bottom of the fourth inning. Beecher’s lineup found its rhythm, stringing together hits and taking full advantage of Peotone’s defensive miscues—the visitors committed five errors on the afternoon. The eight-run eruption pushed Beecher’s lead to a commanding 9-0, effectively putting the contest out of reach.
On the mound, Maher was in complete control from the first pitch. The Beecher starter went the distance, tossing all six innings while scattering just three hits. He allowed only one earned run, worked around three walks, and struck out six Peotone batters to earn the victory.
Peotone finally managed to break up the shutout in the top of the sixth inning. Tyler Leitelt delivered a clutch RBI to put the visitors on the board, but the momentum was short-lived. In the bottom half of the frame, Beecher responded by pushing two final runs across the plate to cap off the 11-1 win and end the game.
Easton Lane and Gavin Van Ness paced the Beecher offense, each delivering a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and scoring a run, with Lane adding an RBI to his tally. Tyler Doran and D. Camilleri also contributed key hits and runs for the home team.
For Peotone, Kayden Derkacy was a bright spot, going 2-for-3 and swiping a base. Leitelt added a hit and the team’s lone RBI in the loss.
