Norkus Shines in Pitcher’s Duel as Beecher Edges Ottawa 1-0
In a defensive masterclass on Thursday, the Beecher varsity softball team secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ottawa in a non-conference matchup.
Beecher pitcher Taylor Norkus was the story of the day, delivering a dominant complete-game shutout. Norkus navigated the Ottawa lineup with ease, allowing just four hits and striking out six while issuing zero walks in seven innings of work.
The game remained a scoreless stalemate until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Beecher finally broke through. Liliana Irwin ignited the rally, and MaKenna Albert delivered a clutch RBI to bring her home, providing the only run the Bobcats would need to seal the win.
Defensively, Beecher was flawless, committing no errors and showing exceptional poise behind Norkus. Liliana Irwin also made an impact on the basepaths, recording a stolen base to help set the table for the offense.
The Bobcats’ lineup managed five hits against Ottawa, with M. Johnson, Grace Wuest, MaKenna Albert, Liliana Irwin, and Maddy Grooms each contributing to the effort. Beecher moves to 25-26 on the season following the victory.
