Beecher Public Library District Meeting | March 17, 2026

The Beecher Public Library District Board of Trustees held a highly productive, one-hour regular meeting on Tuesday evening to manage district finances, update policies, and receive departmental reports. In addition to updating the district’s borrowing identification policy and awarding seasonal landscaping contracts, the board formally approved the month’s financial obligations and received an update confirming that the Main Front Entrance Project remains on schedule. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 8:00 p.m., with all votes passing 6-0 due to the absence of Trustee Rick Kerber.

Financials and Outstanding Bills
During the financial portion of the meeting, Trustee Sheila Oppenhuis presented the Treasurer’s Report and Financial Recap, which the board approved unanimously. Subsequently, Trustee Beverly Wehling moved to approve the payment of the district’s outstanding bills, which totaled $37,190.98 for the period. Trustee Powers seconded the motion, and the expenditure was authorized in a 6-0 roll call vote alongside Library Accountant Squier.

Commercial Liability Insurance Increases
Under New Business, Library Director Jill Grosso informed the board that the district’s commercial liability insurance premium will increase by 10% for the upcoming year. Grosso noted to the trustees that this bump is considered a standard adjustment for commercial insurance policies in the current market.

Storytime Attendance and Sign Repairs
Director Grosso delivered her monthly report, highlighting strong participation in youth programming. She noted that the library’s Storytime events had attracted 61 children over a four-week period. Additionally, Grosso informed the board that she is looking into getting the library’s outdoor sign repaired, explaining that the sign’s controller is currently experiencing communication issues.

Illinois Reading Conference Recommendations
During the committee reports segment, Trustee Sheila Oppenhuis provided an update on behalf of the Schools committee. Oppenhuis recently attended the Illinois Reading Conference held in Springfield and utilized the trip to gather resources, subsequently providing library staff with a curated list of recommended books specifically targeted for younger children.

Main Front Entrance Project
Under Old Business, the board received a brief status update on the facility’s ongoing infrastructure improvements. It was formally noted in the minutes that the library’s Main Front Entrance Project is currently proceeding on schedule.
