BEECHER, IL – The Beecher varsity baseball team utilized a balanced offensive attack and strong work on the mound to secure a 5-3 victory over Chicago University in Monday’s non-conference matchup.

Despite committing four errors in the field, the Bobcats remained composed, leaning on a collective effort from their pitching staff to limit the damage. Beecher’s arms proved effective when it mattered most, as Gavin Van Ness and Chasten Clegg combined for 13 strikeouts across seven innings, ensuring that all three runs allowed by the staff remained unearned.

The Beecher offense found its rhythm early and often, tallying 11 hits throughout the contest. Chase Maher led the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, including a pair of doubles. Nicholas Fox also provided a clutch spark, driving in two runs on two hits, while Easton Lane contributed two hits and scored twice to help pace the Bobcats.

After an early back-and-forth that saw the teams tied 2-2 after the first inning, Beecher regained the lead with two runs in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth to pull away. Chasten Clegg, who entered in relief, earned the win after tossing four solid innings with six strikeouts.
