Illinois Quick Hits: Indiana governor touts True Value move from Illinois

(The Center Square) – Do it Best Group says relocating its True Value hardware headquarters from Chicago to Do It Best’s global headquarters in Fort Wayne, Indiana will create greater opportunities for innovation, efficiency, stability and growth.

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said in a statement that the decision demonstrates that Indiana is a place where companies can grow, lead and compete on a national and international stage.

Do it Best acquired True Value in 2024.

STATE JOBS, CAREER FAIR SET FOR WEDNESDAY IN TAYLORVILLE

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, Central Management Services, and the Taylorville Chamber of Commerce plan to co-host a career fair on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Taylorville VFW.

State job opportunities featured at the fair include child protection, attorneys, architects and engineers, leadership and management, health care, correctional officer trainees, educators, environmental scientists, temporary and seasonal roles, and more.

CPS HOSTS BUDGET FEEDBACK SESSION ON TUESDAY

Chicago Public Schools officials have invited the public to a budget feedback session at Roosevelt High School on Tuesday evening.

District leaders have proposed a $10 billion budget for the 2026-27 school year, up from $6.4 billion in 2016, with a projected deficit of $732.5 million.

U.S. 51 BRIDGE CLOSED OVER OHIO RIVER

Kentucky officials have closed the U.S. 51 Ohio River bridge connecting Cairo, Illinois and Wickliffe, Kentucky for safety reasons.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said a special inspection is being performed after a citizen reported a noticeable change to the bridge deck.

The suggested detour is the Interstate 24 bridge connecting Metropolis and Paducah, but that bridge is down to one lane in each direction due to construction.
