Taxpayer abortion funding resumes with legislation expiring on July 4

Abortion is once again funded with federal tax dollars through Medicaid, as the legislation preventing taxpayers’ money from such a use expired on the 250th anniversary of the United States’ existence.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s Director of Communications Kelsey Pritchard told The Center Square: “As we celebrated the 250th anniversary of our nation founded on the right to life, funding resumed to the Big Abortion businesses.”

Pritchard refers to the Working Family Tax Cuts that expired on July 4 and was legislation that barred federal Medicaid dollars from funding abortion.

Pritchard said that Big Abortion businesses – such as Planned Parenthood – “profit from stripping [the right to life] away from a record number of Americans and increasing our top cause of death year after year.”

“It has always been a truth that money is fungible,” Pritchard said. “But as the taxpayer spigot for abortion industry leaders like Planned Parenthood turns back on, it’s worth examining what else Americans get for helping prop up these organizations: pain and trauma for women, targeting of children, and endorsements for Democrats like Graham Platner and others, all while real healthcare services plummet.”

Planned Parenthood did not respond to The Center Square’s request for comment.

As The Center Square previously reported, abortion is the leading cause of death in the nation, killing 1.1 million a year.

Pritchard told The Center Square that “it is the default expectation of the pro-life movement for Congress to renew the defunding of Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses.

SBA President Marjorie Dannenfelser stated in a news release: “On our nation’s 250th anniversary when we celebrate the self-evident truth that all men are created equal with the unalienable right to life, our taxpayer dollars will once again flow to abortion businesses that profit from the destruction of nearly half a million unborn children every year.”

In its release, SBA urges lawmakers to “do all within their power to renew the defunding provision immediately.”

As The Center Square previously reported, SBA sent a letter in June to Senate Republicans asking them to “pursue another budget reconciliation bill to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion” before the Working Family Tax Cuts expired.

A report from SBA’s research and education arm the Charlotte Lozier Institute recently showed that “11 states have increased funding to Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses since the One Big Beautiful Bill Working Families Tax Cuts was signed,” SBA’s release said.
